Artist Statement
My practice explores the influence digital records and technology have on memory and our perception of the world. I am interested in the points where the physical and virtual overlap, creating moments in which what we remember becomes filtered through the tools used to record it.
By combining digital and analog processes such as weaving, projection, photography, and dye sublimation, I create works that filter and distort image, place, and time. Woven structures act as stand-ins for screens, and the transparent nature of fabric allows for the layering of multiple images. Within this space, photorealism becomes a tool of distortion rather than an unbiased account, prompting questions about what we trust as real.
Through merging tactile and technological processes, I aim to examine how our memories and the images we trust are continuously mediated. My work encourages viewers to pause and consider the imperfection of what we see and recall, and to recognize the subtle algorithms, both human and digital, that shape our perception of the world.
